It’s that time of the year again for Cass County Electric Cooperative. We’re less than a month away from our annual meeting, and lots of planning, writing, and advertising is going on to make sure our members know about it. We spend a lot of time preparing for the annual meeting each year and a lot of people work hard to make sure it goes off without a hitch. But just why do we put so much effort into it? Why is it so important?
The annual meeting is where our members are able to vote for the board of directors. This is one of the core differences between cooperatives and other types of businesses. The operations of the cooperative are decided by the board of directors, who are members themselves, and who are elected solely by other members.
Think of it like this: directors run the cooperative + directors are elected by members = members run the cooperative!
This year we have three board members running unopposed for re-election. The election process will be by voice vote only.
Of course, members can voice questions or concerns to directors or employees at any time, and the annual meeting is a great place to do that as well! When members come to the meeting, they’ll see a presentation on the cooperative’s performance in 2014 and hear a bit about what we have planned for 2016. They’ll get a chance to chat with board members and employees.
Oh, and we’ll also be serving dinner!
It’s all going down at the Valley City Eagles on April 19 at 5:30 PM. We hope to see you there!
